The difference between the basic versions and the intermediate versions of the tutorials is that the basic version is designed to for people who are very new to the program, can still finish the tutorial without consulting other sources (IE the manual). On the other hand the intermediate version is for people who have been using the specified program for a while and already know how to get around in it. For example; the basic version might tell you to create a sphere and then show/tell you where the button to create a sphere is, whereas the intermediate version will tell you to create a sphere and assume you know how to do that.
